(THE SECOND PRODUCTION IN THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON OF "REVIVALS"
...PLAYS PRODUCED IN THE PAST BY CHEVY CHASE PLAYERS...)

This Victorian suspense thriller, which also goes by the name of "Gaslight", was first produced under that name in London in 1938. It was made into a Hollywood film under the title "Gaslight", starring Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer, and Joseph Cotten. In New York, the play's title was changed to "Angel Street", and starred Vincent Price and Leo G. Carroll.

"Angel Street" tells the demoniac story of the Manninghams of London. Under the guise of kindliness, Mr. Manningham is torturing his wife toward insanity. He accuses her of petty aberrations that he himself has arranged; and since her mother died of insanity, she is more than half convinced that she, too, is going out of her mind. While her diabolical husband is out of the house, a benign police inspector visits her and ultimately proves to her that her husband is a maniacal criminal suspected of a murder committed fifteen years ago in the same house, and that he is preparing to dispose of her. Thus starts the game of trying to uncover the necessary evidence against Mr. Manningham. "Angel Street" is a thrilling and melodramatic game.

The Chevy Chase Players first produced this play in May, 1981.

Cast of Angel StreetFor this anniversary production, Director Jim Robertson has assembled a talented group of seven actors: Lori Murray Sampson, Patrick Deo, Joe Lewis, Kryss Lacovaro, Brenda Shaw, Jon Marget and Brian Powers.

Producer Wendell Jones has rounded up set decorations and flyer graphics used in the first production, with many new additions. The set is adorned with four gaslight fixtures, which are an integral part of the plot of the play, and will enhance the mood of mystery and suspense afoot!

Performances will be held February 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22 and 23, 2003. The performance on February 23 will be a 3:00 pm matinee.
